Being trained in lifesaving skills is a great way to be prepared for emergencies and disasters. The Menlo Park Fire District offers several free classes such as First Aid and CPR as well as Disaster Preparedness through its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) initiative. Register for current classes at Menlo CERT.

Another way to improve your preparedness is to connect with neighbors and learn what skills they have or what needs they might have. Several community-based organizations in Menlo Park are actively involved in neighborhood preparedness. One great example is MPCReady, which holds regular trainings on various topics.

There are also numerous resources online to increase your disaster readiness. The Federal Emergency Management Agencies Ready campaign as well as Listos California are great resources. The sites are packed with information and tools to help you prepare for a wide variety of hazards.
